Configuring GoDaddy shared hosting for Drupal performance

Here are some basic tips on getting the most out of your GoDaddy shared hosting account for Drupal:

  • Ensure that RewriteBase is set in Drupal's root .htaccess file
  • Ensure that there is only one instance of php.ini in your hosting root
  • To get changes you make to php.ini picked up by PHP, change the the name of php.ini to php5.ini
  • Increase your PHP memory limit in php5.ini
  • Disable FastCGI
  • Use the Boost module
